Hardness Testing of 3D Printed Hemisphere Using ZX-100K Material

The 3D printed hemisphere made of ZX-100K represents a cutting-edge solution utilised across various sectors, particularly in agriculture and mechanical engineering. These hemispheres serve as essential main bearings for chassis applications.

3D printed in diameters of 250 mm and 380 mm, the production of these 3D spherical caps involved meticulous attention to both inner and outer diameters to ensure adherence to the required tolerances for subsequent machining processes.

Historically, spherical caps were manufactured from segments, necessitating the use of both a ball socket and a ball joint to achieve the desired spherical form through thermoforming. The 3D printed variant streamlines this process, enhancing production efficiency by eliminating the need for these additional steps.

To assess the stability of the printed blanks, two video recordings were conducted, showcasing the hardness testing of the 3D printed spherical cap. This testing provides valuable insights into the material’s performance and durability.

The results from these tests were highly encouraging, enabling us to proceed to evaluations in real-world applications. Further updates to follow.

Bending Test in a Vice

The 3D-printed spherical cap underwent a bending strength and layer adhesion assessment using a vice.

The initial opening was set at 25 cm and was progressively narrowed to 20 cm.

Drop Test

The printed component was subjected to a drop test from a height of 1 meter onto a hard surface to assess its impact resistance.
